We Carry the Medicine
An original two color risograph print. This piece was made by layering an archival photograph from the Austin History Center of an un-named Black woman with medicinal herbs from my garden. The plants used to create this print include thyme, lavender, rock rose, and copper canyon daisy. This image is a reminder that Black people carry our medicine, our knowledge of plants, seeds and cookery.
Seeds braided in our hair, hand written recipes, farms, gardens, tonics, and midwifery, distilling, weaving.
This is a unique one of a kind print with green and yellow ink on blue paper. It is priced accordingly
Part of Holding Ground: A cultural cartography of Freedmen settlements in Austin Texas.
